Everything you need to know about Topics

Topics organize key information and structure your presentation into meaningful sections to convey your message. There are two types of topics: planets and stacks.

  1. Insert a topic by clicking the More button found in the top bar and selecting Planet or Page topic.
  2. Insert subtopics the same way.
  3. Arrange topics automatically using the Topic layout button that appears when you select a topic or subtopic.
  4. To delete a topic, right-click on it on the canvas and select Delete.
  5. You can add multiple layers of topics to zoom in on important details.
  6. Edit the cover of your topics by right-clicking on one and selecting advanced topic editing.

Inserting topics and what they are

To insert a topic, start at the Overview. Click the More button found in the top bar. Then, select Planet topic or Page topic

To insert subtopics, start within the topic you want to add a subtopic to. Click the More button found in the top bar. Then, select Planet subtopic or Page subtopic. You can only add a Planet subtopic if you are in a Planet topic.

The types of topics

Planet topics have subtopics that orbit the main idea. They are best used to separate related content.

Use this type if you want to break your topic up into subtopics or advanced subtopics, jump to different areas of your content, or give your audience a preview of your main ideas.

Page topics contain pages of content that display in a linear fashion. Think of them like slides in a traditional presentation.

Use this type if you want to reveal content to your audience step by step. When you present with a stack topic, each page will display separately and in order.

Subtopics can be added to any topic. Like normal topics, there are two types; Planet subtopics and Page subtopics. You can add either type of subtopic to a Planet topic, but page topics can only have page subtopics.

Arranging topics

You can select topics and move them freely anywhere on the canvas. Just click on the topic to select it, move it to the area you want the topic to appear, and unclick. If you want extra help, topic layouts automatically adjust all of your topics so they appear in order.

Subtopics can be arranged the same way, or you can use subtopic layouts to automatically arrange your content.

Using topic covers

You can customize the appearance of topics and subtopics by editing their covers, or by adjusting their size and color. Topic and subtopic covers are the customizable layers of text and visuals that hide the content within them.

To edit a topic cover, right click on a selected topic and click advanced topic editing. From here, you can change the shape, text, and color of the topic’s cover. You can even add a custom image to replace the shape. All of these options are available from the property bar that appears over your selection.

Note: Only planet and page topic covers can be edited. Pages within a topic don’t have covers.

Deleting a topic

To delete a topic or subtopic, right-click on it on the canvas and select Delete. You can also select it and use the DELETE/BACKSPACE key on your keyboard.
